Very Nice Angles Dovetail Stool

Nick sent me these pictures of a stool he's recently completed with purpleheart ends and an oak top.
He's added plenty of extra interest with angled dovetails, a heavy front edge chamfer, shaped ends, a shaped top and wedged through tenons on the curved rail. A very nicely done piece.

The course is suitable for intermediate to advanced woodworkers who will need to be proficient in cutting dovetails by hand and arrive with a razor sharp toolkit.

There are 12 places on the course and everyone will have their own bench. I know it might seem a long way off but don't leave it too late if you are interested in attending, a number of place have been booked already.

Plane Making Article in Latest Issue of F&C Magazine

The March issue of F&C magazine is out now with a nice six page article on making my wooden jack plane.

For those of you coming on my forthcoming plane making courses this will give you a good idea of the process.

There's also a very good article, by my friend Richard Wile, on cold bent lamination used to make a fine Maloof style rocker.

Krenov Style Dovetailed Cabinet

Jeff from the US sent me these pictures of a recently completed project. Although he's an experienced woodworker he had never hand cut dovetails before. After dozen practice cuts, he used one of my magnetic guides and he's done a fine job with those protruding dovetails.
The curved door is made from a single board of figured black walnut.

Knife hinges add discreet elegance and the birds eye maple shelves give a lift to the interior.

Making Box Parts for my Dovetailing Courses.

I cut lengths of walnut and sycamore to rough width on the band saw and then cleaned up the edges on the shooting board. The longer piece of black walnut is stuck to the board with double sided tape and has been positioned evenly along it's length to make sure all the boards are the perfect width.

The shavings from planning up 52 box sides.

The grooves for the box bottoms are cut on my router table using the brilliant Flip Stop system for the stopped cuts on the tail boards.

Nice clean grooves. The pin boards are routed straight through as the grooves lie in the waste.

All the sides for 13 dovetailed boxes, enough for three courses.
Some of the sycamore has some lovely ripple and will look great.
