Leif Karlsson Swedish Work benches

Leif Karlsson makes traditional Scandinavian work benches in Sweden, I am lucky enough to own one. They are made 'in the old way' with machinery that looks just as old. In the video he is making a small batch for a wooden boatbuilder in Norway.
Leif is winding down now, so if you want a bench you'd better ask him nicely and be prepared to wait.

Alan Peters Furniture up for Auction

I'm selling my Alan Peters chest of drawers at the Woolley and Wallis auction on 20th March 2019
https://www.woolleyandwallis.co.uk/departments/20th-century-design/da200319/?p=1&s=160&v=list
I'll be very sad to see it go, it's a wonderful piece, but it's not getting used and so it should really go to a better home.

Also in the auction is the very nice sideboard I refurbished a short while back.
There are also a couple of smaller pieces of his work for auction. All are signed and a great future investment.

Plane Making Course (second weekend)

The second weekend plane making course is over. Kevin and Geoffrey are shown smoothing the interior of the plane sides using planing boards with a thin stop.

Here are the finished planes in all their glory, two jack planes and two jointers.

There was time to stamp the planes with participants names.

The proud quartet with their finished planes, they all did very well.

Three of the four, attended the tool box course I did back in 2015 at Bridgewater College. They brought along their toolboxes which was a nice surprise and it was great to see they had all retained their piston fit trays and soft close lids.

Plane Making Weekend

The weekend went very well and everyone managed to get their planes clamped up on day one. You can never have too many clamps!

That gave plenty of time for blade sharpening and enjoying some of Barrie's homemade birthday cake.

The transformation from rectangular block to rough shaped plane, is made with just three cuts on the band saw.

Time for plenty of hand work, here Matthew is using an excellent HNT Gordon spoke shave on the pull stroke to avoid tear out.

Martin is using an older style HNT Gordon shave which has plenty of weight.

Time seemed to run away on the second day but everyone finished their plane by the end of the day. A very enjoyable weekend, I'm very much looking forward to this weekends class.
