I've always been drawn to carved spoons so I decided to buy the knives and have a go.
Splitting out the log was easier than I imagined, here is some mildly spalted birch which was very attractive.
After a practice, this is how my second spoon turned out, not bad but hand aches!

Nigel sent me these pictures of a lovely little plane he made. It features cupids bow dovetails on both the sides and sole and has a super tight mouth. It has a nice quarter sawn cocobolo infill for stability as well as looks and a nice thick blade bedded at 59 degrees. The quality of the details is superb which is no surprise as he is a professional violin maker. You can see some of his work here.

I spotted this fine Swedish work bench currently for sale on E Bay. It has a very useful shoulder vice and a proper tail vice. At £250 it's an absolute bargain!
