Wonderful Spoke Shaves

Here's a post from the HNT Gordon Instagram page showing some beautiful spoke shaves.

They also work rather well too!

This is some video footage from the Melbourne wood show, shot by Joseph Price from @soxycustomguitars . We are using our HNT Gordon smoothing plane to plane this piece of sitka spruce, which is a typical musical instrument timber. This demonstrates the use of our HNT tail vice with specially shaped, low profile dogs to hold this 2-3mm thick piece of wood. As pointed out by Joseph in the video, our planes are very capable of planing softer timbers like this. It was a real pleasure to meet Joseph who has been using our smoothing plane to make guitars professionally for 14 years. Head over to his page to take a look @soxycustomguitars #hntgordon #australianmade #smoothingplane #handplane #woodworking #woodworkingtools

For those of you who have purchased one of these scrapers, this is the easiest way to sharper it at approx 80 degrees. For best results you should sharpen regularly, but as you can see it is a very quick process. The sanding disk is a worn out piece of 150 grit aluminium oxide abrasive. ##hntgordon #australianmade #woodworking #woodworkingtools

This is the blade from the 2" scraper that was used in the video post the other day on finishing a trying plane. Given the interest, we can make a batch of these for those who are interested. However you would have to make your own handle. Made from m2 HSS 50mm wide x 6mm thick and approx 5 inches long including the tang. You probably won't wear it out in your life time. Easy to sharpen on a disk sander with a worn out piece of sand paper at 150 grit - sharpened at 80 degrees either side of the blade to give you two cutting edges. Selling for $80 each, email me at planemaker@hntgordon.com.au if you are interested. Once we have around 10 orders we will go ahead with production. #hntgordon #woodworking #woodworkingtools
Using the shoulder plane to trim up a large tenon. The block plane also came in handy as the tenons were so large. #hntgordon #shoulderplane #blockplane #woodworking #woodworkingtools #australianmade #finewoodworking #handtoolthursday
