Latest Batch of Dovetail Knives
I've just finished a small bath of dovetail knives inAfrican Blackwood. I leave the wood to settle for at least 12 months after turning to ensure no future problems. there's no rushing these hard exotics.
Some of this batch will be going to a special occasion, more of that in a future blog.
The scalloped thumb depression registers the blade at 90 degrees which is really useful.
It takes much longer to finish as the whole handle has to be done by hand rather than on the lathe.
I use hand rubbed melamine lacquer cut back with 1,000 grit and waxed with carnauba.
